Updates June

Posted on: June 25th, 2011 by Geir Buner Hanslien No Comments

Finally the real summer season have started and the fishing are really improving for every day! We`ve had 3 groups of guests at the Upper Namsen Trout Camp and one group in Valsjøbyen Mountain Camp so far.

It`s been some rather changing conditions since the last days of May with the whole register of weather – from wind, rain and 2 degrees up to the warmest day with blue sky and 32 degrees.

But now the rivers are getting down to perfect level and temperature and both the mayflies and caddis flies are hatching and the trout`s are willingly rising to the surface:-)

There has been caught some real nice fish although the conditions have been very changing, the two biggest brown`s of 55 cm and 58 cm (2,1 kg). The last couple of days there has been some nice hatches of mayflies and several nice trout`s have found their way into the landing nets;-)

Attaching some pictures from June and our trips (for more pictures, please visit our Facebook-page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fat-Trout-Explorer/181675635180343)

Say goodbye to mosquitos!

Posted on: June 25th, 2011 by Geir Buner Hanslien 2 Comments

As most fishermen and others who use the great outdoors have experienced more than once, mosquitos can be a real pain and disturbing and can often spoil both the fishing and sometimes the whole experience. But now your problems are solved – with the “Linsnätet”!

The ”Linsnätet” was official released to the market this spring. We`ve used them last season on our trips and more than once this product made us and our guests fish and enjoying nature although it was huge amounts of mosquitos:-)

The “Linsnätet” is a mosquito net with glasses which comes in several models. This makes you protected from the mosquitos and at the same time have perfect visibility for fishing, photographing, hunting and other activities!

Fat Trout Explorer distributes the “Linsnätet” and can offer the following models:

  • “Linsnätet” Amber (polarized glasses) NOK 349,-
  • “Linsnätet” Fit-Over (clear glasses) NOK 349,-
  • “Linsnätet” Contrast (yellow contrast glasses) NOK 249,-
  • “Linsnätet” Clear (clear glasses) NOK 249,-

Getting ready for the season!

Posted on: May 16th, 2011 by Geir Buner Hanslien No Comments

We`ve had some weeks of nice Seatrout fishing now and the conditions and catches have been good……. but now we are getting real close to the season that we have been waiting for so long – to once again hunting for the Brown Trout in rivers and lakes;-)

Last week we could finally watch the first brown`s rise in upper parts of The River Namsen. So next week we will get up our camp togheter with the team in Upper Namsen and also get startet and settled in Valsjøbyen Mountain Camp:-)

We are going to update our blog frequently as we are heading towards an exciting and interesting season!

Fat Trout Gathering

Posted on: May 8th, 2011 by Geir Buner Hanslien No Comments

The last weekend of April we had a gathering with 7 members of the Fat Trout Crew at some of our hotspots for seatrout in the middle of Norway. The setting for this weekend was nearly perfect with 3 days of sunny weather, nice temperature, gourmet food by our chef and nice times by the fireplace with good colleagues and friends!

And of course we spend some hours with the flyrods and finally had some good catches of seatrout as well (it`s been a bit slow start this season).  We also had our partner, Våt Drøm Film with Marek, present on Saturday and got some nice shoots of the crew and the fishing!

So now we are even more ready for this season and can assure our customers that the crew are ready and enthusiastic to make your stay memorable and exciting at our destinations in both Norway and Sweden!

The Swedish Guide crew season 2011

Posted on: April 28th, 2011 by Johan Ericsson No Comments

Spring is here and all gear has been checked and doublechecked again.

As a chef in the wild the meny has been polished and soon there will be a post about that also here on the blog.

But first things first. Our company would not be anything without the help and knowledge of our guides. You have seen the norwegian ones here but here is a short presentation of the ones working on the swedish side of the border this year.

MATTIAS EDBERG

Mattias is a known face in the Jamland fishing area. He lives in Östersund, but born in the Offerdal-region. Mattias is an educated guide in both hunting and fishing.

Mattias is one of our guides to our weekend packages and also does the day-to-day guiding from our Sweden office.Mattias is a keen flyfisher and mainly spends his summers “rod in hand” and ready for adventure.Dry fly fishing is what interests Mattias the most in the streams and rivers. As many flyfishermen in Jamtland, the moment when the Arctic Char takes the dry fly, is a euphorical moment.

Mattias has a dream of going into the Canadian wilderness flyfishing in the future. From our end, we see Mattias as a social, down to earth person and a good host at our locations. A laughter in the night is never far away when out in the wilderness with Mattias on your side.

CHRIS NYGREN

Chris is originally from Göteborg in the southern parts of Sweden. There he was professionally involved in fishing and and a flyfishinginstructor. Since moving up to Jamtland in -92, Chris is spending his summers flyfishing, and the winters as a professional flytyer and chef at a school. Since -97 Chris has been guiding the Hårkan river with surroundings. Chris is an educated ecoguide and a true lover of nature and it´s treasures.

In a addition, Chris is an excellent chef and provides our customers with a taste of his skills.

To the swedish TV-audience, Chris is a familiar face as a guide on the icefishingarena at Lake Landögsjön. We are very happy to welcome Chris to our crew this year.

JOHAN RESMAN

New to guiding, Johan is a exciting addition to our crew this year. Not many known flyfishermen travel as much as Johan in our countryside to find new and delicious places to fish and he is a man who fancies the trout above all. A bonus is that Johan is a nice guy to hang out with around the campfire at night. Johan is one of the guides this season with the mission to find out how the fishing is at our more distant locations. So if you are in to fishing the untouched mountain lakes and streams for char and trout, Johan is your man. Johan is also a good cook and tried his luck in the TV-show “Mästerkocken” aka “Masterchef” a while ago. Hope we can hold on to this guy for many seasons.

KJELL JOHANSSON

Kjell is one of our new day-to-day guides in Sweden and also part of our pikefishing team. Involved in lots of club activities with both youngsters and adults in fishing, Kjell is a resource to any outfitter. He is also a fishing licence controller in one of our areas. A man of all trades that hunt and fish all year around. When it comes to flyfishing, Kjell is well familiar with most waters in our region. Kjell is also one of the guys that meet you at the train station in Östersund when you hire us on a day-to-day basis. Then you are in good hands.

DAVID HANNERSJÖ

David was our first external choice of guide. With knowledge from years of research on university level about the grayling and it´s behaviour David is a treasure for all outfitters. David is a keen sportsfisher and fishes all year around. David is part of our weekend and longer concept but can also be avaliable on day-to-day trips from Östersund and Krokom. David will do some guestguidening this summer at most of our camps.

These are the guides that we provide on the swedish side this year so far. But there are others incoming since we at Fat Trout never stop looking for the best fishing and best crew for your pleasure.

The Essential Fly

We`re happy to announce that we have selected the british company The Essential Fly as our main supplier of flies for our crew and customers. We are now working on a wide selection of flies already for the 2011-season.

All the customers at our all-inclusive trips get a customized flybox with flies for the places they will fish during their stay. In addition to the flyboxes we will also have a range of flies for every customer at our Fat Trout Guide Shop.

We are looking forward to a good and long companionship with Ann & Andy at the The Essential Fly!

Back from Denmark!

Posted on: March 29th, 2011 by Geir Buner Hanslien No Comments

After a week in Denmark with some seatrout fishing and finally attending the Danish Flyfestival the crew are back in Norway and Sweden. We had some real bad luck with the fishing in Fyn as the coasts were attacked by a real nasty algea and all the fish had escaped out to sea – but we got to practice a lot of flycasting!

At the Danish Flyfestival we had some interesting and fun days with good response towards our products and we did also meet a lot of old and new friends and business partners. And also thanks to FFF Denmark which arranged a high quality exhibition!

For those who signed up for our newsletter during the exhibition we will draw the prizes you can win during the next couple of days. All winners will be contacted and announced at our website.

Please contact us at post@fattrout.no if you got any questions to us.

Fly fishing bonanza!!!

Posted on: March 18th, 2011 by Johan Ericsson No Comments

After a weekend at “Flugfiskemässan” in Stockholm and a week at the new swedish office we are reloading for a few days of flyfishing in Denmark before attending the “Danish Fly Festival” over a few days.

The new Office in Sweden is by the way placed next to the railway station in Östersund. So now getting hold of us just became even simpler. “Step of the train and in to our world of flyfishing!!”

The fair in Stockholm also gave us the pleasure to present a new partner. IMAGO flyfishing.

These lads have opened up for quality and new thinking in respect for tradition in a way that we will report back on here at the Fat Trout company.Today the first products arrived in the mail and we are giving their rods, waders and other gear a go this season. But from what we have seen so far they deliver all the way!! From the start of may we will have a showroom in both ends of the “Fiskevägen” to provide you with high quality gear.

The other great news is that Fat Trout now can provide you with one of the breakthrough product of the century when it comes to getting some protection from the mosquitos and gnats of our mountains. The “Linsnätet” fishing sunglasses are a product that we supply our customers with during their stay with us. And we also sell them at fairs and trips in the future.

But it´s hard to concentrate on buisness now when a trip to the waters around denmark are so close…

Best wishes //Ersa
